Rasta
Pasta! We were so excited to go. We stepped inside & the decor was
luscious. Red, Gold, Green, Bob Marley, & tropical arrangements,
sending out a comfortable and irie vibe. The place was quiet for a
mid-afternoon, similar to the old town feeling of Fort Collins. The
restaurant was open & spacious with outdoor seating. Very
kid-friendly. There was a television towards the front that kept Jamari
busy, but not too good for families against TV & eating. They had
some nice dub music playing adding to the Jamaican/Reggae artifacts. It
made us feel closer to the Caribbean.
Our largest disappointment was Rasta Pasta's menu. We imagined a menu filled with unique ital/vegan dishes like the vegetable mixes we had in Rasta stops in Jamaica. Unfortunately there are no pure vegetarian ital dishes posted, but they do substitute meat for tofu or vegetables. As we read the menu, I watched disappointment grow on Jamari's face. What were we going to eat? Luckily the waitress was nice enough to inform us of the dishes that tasted good vegan, which we appreciated. But, I mean, C'mon. Your named "Rasta Pasta," & you cannot supply a strictly ital section? That is aggravating. But don’t worry, the food was worth the trip.
We
ordered the "Rasta Pasta" with tofu, which is a very simple dish. Both
Jamari & Urijah liked the taste, and I thought it was richly
flavored and filling, though a bit heavy. It didn't taste like the most
authentic pasta I've ever had, and it was not tantalizing enough to make
us hurry & come back, but whenever we travel to Fort Collins or
Colorado Springs again, it is an eatery we will definitely consider.
Urijah (3 1/2 years old at the time), commented that the pasta was
spicy, which means hot in temperature w/the flavoring. Jamari did not
think it was spicy at all. A real great bonus was the price $ the bill
came to.
$17.42 for one adult & two children meals. Yes!
Vegan Mama Coast 2 Coast Summary: We
enjoyed the food. We were kind of bummed that we had to ask for
substitutions of tofu, & that they did not have a real vegan/ital
dish on the menu, but it is a nice restaurant with a fantastic
atmosphere. Our family was comfortable, they gave plenty of food, and
the price is very reasonable. They also host live reggae artists at
different times throughout the year. I would recommend checking this
place out. Hopefully you can hook us up with a real special ital dish in
the future. One that ital Rastas are proud of. Yes, give thanks.
