At the foothills of Baldy Mountains vegans can now find not
only an all vegan grocery store, but also a completely vegan Thai restaurant. Yay Vegans! Each time we eat at Thai Vegan Cuisine,
the eatery is filled with a good amount of customers proving that our diet is building fans.
The menu is primarily
Thai, offering Pad Thai, yellow, red, and green curries along with a variety of
soy meats that include soy chicken, beef, pork, and fish. During our last visit, Urijah ordered the
Bright Pad Thai with soy chicken.
Usually it is difficult to find a vegan pad thai due to fish sauce and
eggs. This one was tasty. The noodles were smothered in a sweet tangy sauce
that was nicely mild for him. Though it was good, I missed the sour-like lime-like flavor that usually accompanies pad thai.
Jamari ordered the lunch special orange chicken. Lunch is a good time to come here and take advantage of the restaurant’s $6.99 lunch specials. The specials come with brown rice, a fried dumpling, salad, and miso soup. Besides the staple asian delights, Thai vegan also cooks burgers, wraps and pancakes.
For non-soy eating
vegans like me, there are not many items on the menu. The main
dish is the vegan lentil loaf, which I have had twice. Once as a lunch
special, and again as a burger.
Each time, I have been disappointed with the seasoning of the
lentils in addition to its mushy consistency. This time when I had it in
the burger it was annoying because it
kept falling out of the bun. The bread was too tough to cut, and I had
to add a good amount of salt, ketchup, and mustard to give it better
flavor.
The restaurant's desserts on the other hand look delicious. We hope to try some sometime. The fried banana spring rolls
with ice cream is one of my favorite and ofcourse there is the vegan thai ice
tea. The décor inside the restaurant is classy and comfortable. Everything is still pretty new, and it is kid
friendly. The amount of food they serve is
reasonable, but do not expect left-overs. The prices average around $8.50 per
plate for dinner.
Our biggest complaint is that there are not more non-soy products, and we could use a heftier serving of food, but we are always pleased with our meals and so happy it's by us. Our lunch total was $25.25 for two specials, an appetizer of fries, and a lentil loaf burger.
Thai Vegan Cuisine is located on 9819 #F Foothill Blvd. Rancho
Cucomonga, CA 91730.
